Target group: migrants, refugees and persons in need of international protection

Goal: facilitating access to personal, civic, economic and social rights of migrants and refugees in Romania

Activities: awareness campaigns, information sessions at national level, advocacy, production of information materials, meetings and consultations with communities

1. About the project

Title: The Coalition for the Rights of Migrants and Refugees (CDMiR)

Short description: The Coalition was established in 2017 with the mission of ensuring the respect of the rights of migrants and refugees in Romania. It currently brings together 23 non-governmental organizations in the country and enjoys the support of 5 supporters from academia and international organizations. 

Implementation period: CDMiR has implemented various projects from 2018 to the present, as follows:

  • 2018 - 2019, the NIEM project - National Integration Evaluation Mechanism Measuring and improving integration of beneficiaries of international protection, funded by the European Fund for Migration and Asylum, co-financed by Open Society Foundations.

  • 2020 - the Advocacy project for the integration of refugees in Romania, a project funded by UNHCR Romania and managed by the Romanian National Council for Refugees.

  • April 2021 - July 2023 - CDMiR project: a shared vision for the integration of migrants and refugees, through the Active Citizens Fund Romania program, funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway

  • March 2023 - March 2024 - CDMiR 4 Ukraine: Raising awareness of human rights and equal treatment for Ukrainian refugees in Romania, through the Active Citizens Fund Romania program, funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway 

  • Currently, member organizations are implementing projects individually.


2. How?

  • Collaboration with relevant parties: We participated in working sessions with employers and trade union representatives and established partnerships with institutions to support access to public services in the social and health fields. 

  • Awareness campaigns: We carried out online and offline awareness campaigns and information sessions among refugees

  • Consultation and training: We proposed written recommendations in public consultation processes or within the meetings organized by public authorities

  • Informative materials: We produced a guide on how to access the labor market for migrants and beneficiaries of temporary protection.

3. What we have achieved?

  • We have facilitated access to information, improved services, training and capacity building for migrants and refugees;

  • We have contributed to raising awareness about the rights of refugees and migrants;

  • We have encouraged cooperation at local and national level through organized events, which brought together parties with responsibilities in the field;

  • Following consultation with refugee communities, we have initiated a series of advocacy efforts to improve the legal and policy framework regarding the integration of refugees;

  • We have provided support to people employed or wishing to enter the Romanian labor market through information sessions on rights and obligations
