What we do

Legal counseling

We provide legal advice and assistance in all phases of the asylum procedure in order to respect the procedural guarantees of asylum seekers, in accordance with national and international legislation in force.

We also contribute to mediating the interaction with public authorities and assisting asylum seekers in drafting applications or appeals.

At the same time, we provide advice, legal assistance and interpretation for migrants who have received a return decision, in order to ensure the fundamental rights and dignity of persons with irregular residence in Romania are respected.

Counseling for accessing economic and social rights

We offer counseling and assistance to refugees, beneficiaries of international protection and beneficiaries of temporary protection regarding education, work, livelihoods, access to medical services, access to social services and benefits, integration and language courses, obtaining/regaining citizenship and the family reunification procedure.

We also ensure access to specialized counseling for asylum seekers registered and accommodated in all Regional Procedure and Accommodation Centers of IGI-DAI (General Inspectorate for Immigration - Asylum and Integration Directorate), as well as for asylum seekers located outside the accommodation centers, including in transit areas or at border crossing points.

Country of Origin Information Research (ITO)

“Country of Origin Information” (ITO) refers to relevant information about third-party countries, in terms of the political and economic situation, living conditions or public safety.

Through COI research, we provide asylum and migration authorities - experts from the General Inspectorate for Immigration, judges, lawyers or legal advisors - with reliable information and we provide up-to-date reports on the human rights situation in these countries.

Thus, the responsible authorities receive detailed answers about the countries of origin of asylum seekers, relevant to the cases they handle. In this way, we support them in making correct decisions and contribute to building a more efficient and fair asylum system, ensuring adequate protection for refugees.

Advocacy

To support the improvement of the legislative framework, we identify legal gaps regarding the access to rights of asylum seekers, stateless persons or those who have received a form of international protection in Romania and bring them to the attention of the competent authorities, through advocacy activities.

In this regard, we get involved in public consultation processes or participate in meetings organized by the authorities, formulating recommendations for amendments or completions of the normative acts subject to debate, to ensure that they respect the fundamental rights of refugees and best respond to their specific needs.

Capacity building

We are engaged in informing the parties involved in the asylum procedure, such as counselors, lawyers who provide legal assistance, interpreters, decision-makers, representatives of institutions or public authorities.

We do this by organizing training sessions, developing informative materials or events through which we bring together public authorities and civil society representatives that are responsible for the integration of people who received a form of protection in our country.
